כ"ט:י"ב וּבַחֲמִשָּׁה֩ עָשָׂ֨ר י֜וֹם לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י מִֽקְרָא־קֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֔ם כָּל־מְלֶ֥אכֶת עֲבֹדָ֖ה לֹ֣א תַעֲשׂ֑וּ וְחַגֹּתֶ֥ם חַ֛ג לַיהוָ֖ה שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִֽים׃

29:12 On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, you shall observe a sacred occasion: you shall not work at your occupations.—Seven days you shall observe a festival of the LORD.—

29:12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation: ye shall do no manner of servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days;

כ"ט:י"ג וְהִקְרַבְתֶּ֨ם עֹלָ֜ה אִשֵּׁ֨ה רֵ֤יחַ נִיחֹ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה פָּרִ֧ים בְּנֵי־בָקָ֛ר שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר אֵילִ֣ם שְׁנָ֑יִם כְּבָשִׂ֧ים בְּנֵֽי־שָׁנָ֛ה אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר תְּמִימִ֥ם יִהְיֽוּ׃

29:13 You shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire of pleasing odor to the LORD: Thirteen bulls of the herd, two rams, fourteen yearling lambs; they shall be without blemish.

29:13 and ye shall present a burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: thirteen young bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs of the first year; they shall be without blemish;

1וְהִקְרַבְתֶּם עוֹלָה וְגוֹ׳ לַה׳ פָּרִים וְגוֹ׳. נִרְאֶה כִּי טַעַם הַמְעָטַת הַפָּרִים יוֹם יוֹם, לְפִי שֶׁיֵּשׁ שְׁנֵי סוֹדֵי שְׁבִיעִיּוֹת: הָאֻמּוֹת הֵם הָרַבִּים שִׁבְעִים אֻמּוֹת וְנִמְשְׁלוּ לְפָרִים, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גַּם כֵּן הֵם בִּבְחִינַת הַשֶּׁבַע בְּסוֹד בַּת שֶׁבַע (זוהר חדש ג רסו.), וְכָל מַעֲשֵׂיהֶם שְׁבִיעִיּוֹת: הַקָּרְבָּנוֹת בְּכָל הַמּוּסָפִין שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה, יָמִים טוֹבִים שִׁבְעָה שִׁבְעָה, הַשַּׁבָּת סוֹד שִׁבְעָה עַנְפֵי אִילָן שֶׁבּוֹ שֹׁרֶשׁ נִשְׁמָתָן שִׁבְעָה, צַדִּיקִים שִׁבְעָה, וְרָמַז ה׳ כְּנֶגֶד הָאֻמּוֹת הָרְמוּזִים בַּפָּרִים שֶׁיִּהְיוּ מִתְמַעֲטִים וְהוֹלְכִים.

והקרבתם עולה…לה׳ פרים, you will offer to G'd 13 bullocks, etc. It would appear that the reason why a progressively smaller number of bullocks was offered on each of the seven days of the Sukkot festival is connected to two different mystical dimensions of the number seven. The Gentile nations comprise the number seven in the "plural," i.e. 70, and they are compared to bullocks. Israel too is compared to the number seven as we know from the Zohar volume 3 page 266, and all Israel's important deeds are somehow related to the number seven. The sacrifices on all the festivals appear in sevens, the total number of festival days are seven (2 days Passover, 1 day Shavuot, 1 day Rosh Hashanah, 1 day Yom Kippur, and 2 days Sukkot/Shemini Atzeret). The Sabbath is the mystical dimension of the seven branches of the tree which contains the root of the souls of the seven righteous people mentioned in Tikkuney Hazohar. The basic message of the 70 bullocks which the Jews offered on Sukkot is that the Gentile nations will keep becoming fewer.

2וְרָמַז בְּחֶשְׁבּוֹן זֶה קָבוּעַ אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר כְּבָשִׂים, לִרְמֹז שְׁתֵּי הַדְּרָגוֹת שֶׁבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל שֶׁבָּאִים בְּרֶמֶז הַכְּבָשִׂים, אֶחָד נִסְתָּר וְאֶחָד נִגְלֶה. הַנִּסְתָּר הֵם הַבְּרוּרִים שֶׁצָּרִיךְ לְבָרֵר מֵהָאֻמּוֹת, וְהַנִּגְלֶה הֵם הַמְבָרְרִים. וְלָזֶה כְּשֶׁכָּלִים הַפָּרִים זֶה לְךָ הָאוֹת שֶׁכָּלָה מֵהֶם הַנִּסְתָּר וְלֹא יִשָּׁאֲרוּ כִּי אִם יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמוֹפֵת וְאוֹת. וְהוּא מַה שֶׁרָמַז ה׳ בְּקָרְבַּן יוֹם עֲצֶרֶת שִׁבְעָה כְּבָשִׂים שֶׁהֵם לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל צֹאן קְדוֹשִׁים, פַּר הוּא הַנִּשְׁאָר מֵהָאֻמּוֹת מֵעָנָף יִשְׁמָעֵאל, אַיִל הוּא הַנִּשְׁאָר מִבְּנֵי עֵשָׂו הַבָּא מִיִּצְחָק, וְהָבֵן סוֹד הַדָּבָר.

The fact that the number of sheep offered as part of these additional burnt-offerings on the seven days of Sukkot is constant, i.e. 14, is an allusion to Israel appearing on two different spiritual levels, the hidden level and the visible level. The "hidden" level of Israel's spirituality refers to the need for the Israelites to set free sparks of sanctity trapped amongst the Gentile nations, a concept which we have written about on several occasions. The visible element is that the Jewish people represent sanctity which is visible. The proof is that after the bullocks of the nations have all been "used up," the only ones left are the Israelites. This means that the Israelites have fulfilled their task, that all the sparks of sanctity that were capable of being set free from their Gentile jailers have been redeemed. This is alluded to by the Mussaph offering on Shemini Atzeret when G'd ordered the Israelites to offer up a single bullock and only seven sheep. These seven sheep symbolise Israel, the sacred flock. The single bullock symbolises the one remaining bullock of the Gentile nations, i.e. the one representing Ishmael. The ram of that sacrifice represents Esau. Between them, the animals in the Mussaph offering of Shemini Atzeret represent the nations descended from Abraham.

כ"ט:י"ד וּמִנְחָתָ֔ם סֹ֖לֶת בְּלוּלָ֣ה בַשָּׁ֑מֶן שְׁלֹשָׁ֨ה עֶשְׂרֹנִ֜ים לַפָּ֣ר הָֽאֶחָ֗ד לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה עָשָׂר֙ פָּרִ֔ים שְׁנֵ֤י עֶשְׂרֹנִים֙ לָאַ֣יִל הָֽאֶחָ֔ד לִשְׁנֵ֖י הָאֵילִֽם׃

29:14 The meal offerings with them—of choice flour with oil mixed in—shall be: three-tenths of a measure for each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths for each of the two rams,

29:14 and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, three tenth parts for every bullock of the thirteen bullocks, two tenth parts for each ram of the two rams,

29:15 and one-tenth for each of the fourteen lambs.

29:16 And there shall be one goat for a sin offering—in addition to the regular burnt offering, its meal offering and libation.

29:16 and one he-goat for a sin-offering beside the continual burnt-offering, the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof.

כ"ט:ט"ז וּצְפִיר בַּר עִזִּין חַד חַטָּאתָא בַּר מֵעֲלַת תְּדִירָא מִנְחָתַהּ וְנִסְכַּהּ:

כ"ט:י"ז וּבַיּ֣וֹם הַשֵּׁנִ֗י פָּרִ֧ים בְּנֵי־בָקָ֛ר שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר אֵילִ֣ם שְׁנָ֑יִם כְּבָשִׂ֧ים בְּנֵי־שָׁנָ֛ה אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר תְּמִימִֽם׃

29:17 Second day: Twelve bulls of the herd, two rams, fourteen yearling lambs, without blemish;

29:17 And on the second day ye shall present twelve young bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs of the first year without blemish;

כ"ט:י"ז וּבְיוֹמָא תִנְיָנָא תּוֹרִין בְּנֵי תוֹרֵי תְּרֵי עֲשַׂר דִּכְרִין תְּרֵין אִמְּרִין בְּנֵי שְׁנָא אַרְבְּעָא עֲשַׂר שַׁלְמִין:

כ"ט:י"ח וּמִנְחָתָ֣ם וְנִסְכֵּיהֶ֡ם לַ֠פָּרִים לָאֵילִ֧ם וְלַכְּבָשִׂ֛ים בְּמִסְפָּרָ֖ם כַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

29:18 the meal offerings and libations for the bulls, rams, and lambs, in the quantities prescribed;

29:18 and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance;

כ"ט:י"ח וּמִנְחַתְהוֹן וְנִסְכֵּיהוֹן לְתוֹרִין לְדִכְרִין וּלְאִמְּרִין בְּמִנְיָנֵיהוֹן כִּדְחָזֵי:

ומנחתם ונסכיהם לפרים. פָּרֵי הֶחָג שִׁבְעִים הֵם כְּנֶגֶד שִׁבְעִים אֻמּוֹת, וּמִתְמַעֲטִים וְהוֹלְכִים, סִימָן כְּלָיָה הִיא לָהֶם, וּבִימֵי הַמִּקְדָּשׁ הָיוּ מְגִנִּים עֲלֵיהֶם מִן הַיִּסּוּרִין (סוכה נ"ה):

29:36 You shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire of pleasing odor to the LORD; one bull, one ram, seven yearling lambs, without blemish;

29:36 but ye shall present a burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: one bullock, one ram, seven he-lambs of the first year without blemish;

29:39 All these you shall offer to the LORD at the stated times, in addition to your votive and freewill offerings, be they burnt offerings, meal offerings, libations, or offerings of well-being.

29:39 These ye shall offer unto the LORD in your appointed seasons, beside your vows, and your freewill-offerings, whether they be your burnt-offerings, or your meal-offerings, or your drink-offerings, or your peace-offerings.

לבד מנדריכם. אִם בָּאתֶם לִדּוֹר קָרְבָּנוֹת בָּרֶגֶל, מִצְוָה הִיא בְּיֶדְכֶם, אוֹ נְדָרִים אוֹ נְדָבוֹת שֶׁנְּדַרְתֶּם כָּל הַשָּׁנָה, הַקְרִיבוּם בָּרֶגֶל, שֶׁמָּא יִקְשֶׁה לוֹ לַחֲזֹר וְלַעֲלוֹת לִירוּשָׁלַיִם וּלְהַקְרִיב נְדָרָיו וְנִמְצָא עוֹבֵר בְּבַל תְּאַחֵר:

ל׳:א׳ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (פ)

30:1 So Moses spoke to the Israelites just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

ויאמר משה אל בני ישראל. לְהַפְסִיק הָעִנְיָן, דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל, לְפִי שֶׁעַד כָּאן דְּבָרָיו שֶׁל מָקוֹם וּפָרָשַׁת נְדָרִים מַתְחֶלֶת בְּדִבּוּרוֹ שֶׁל מֹשֶׁה, הֻצְרַךְ לְהַפְסִיק תְּחִלָּה וְלוֹמַר שֶׁחָזַר מֹשֶׁה וְאֲמָרָהּ פָרָשָׁה זוֹ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁאִם לֹא כֵן, יֵשׁ בְּמַשְׁמַע שֶׁלֹּא אָמַר לָהֶם זוֹ, אֶלָּא בְּפָרָשַׁת נְדָרִים הִתְחִיל דְּבָרָיו:

ל׳:א׳ אור החיים

1כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר וְגוֹ׳ אֶת מֹשֶׁה. וְלֹא הִסְפִּיק לוֹמַר ״אוֹתוֹ״ וּמוּבָן שֶׁעַל מֹשֶׁה הוּא אוֹמֵר, לְהָעִירְךָ שֶׁהוּא מַאֲמָר בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ שֶׁהֵם דִּבְרֵי הַתּוֹרָה שֶׁמְּעִידָה וְאוֹמֶרֶת שֶׁהַמַּאֲמָר מִמֶּנּוּ אֲלֵיהֶם הָיָה כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה ה׳ אֶת מֹשֶׁה, מַה שֶׁלֹּא הָיָה נִשְׁמָע אִם הָיָה אוֹמֵר ״אוֹתוֹ״ שֶׁאָז הָיָה נִשְׁמָע שֶׁהוּא גְּמַר מַאֲמַר ״וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה וְגוֹ׳ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה ה׳ אוֹתוֹ״, וַעֲדַיִן אֲנִי אוֹמֵר שֶׁהוּא חָשַׁב כֵּן וּמִי יֹאמַר שֶׁלֹּא טָעָה בִּדְבָרָיו וְלֹא שִׁנָּה בְּהֶסַּח הַדַּעַת.

ככל אשר צוה ה׳ את משה in accordance with all that G'd commanded Moses. The Torah did not content itself with writing אותו, "him," but wrote instead את משה, although the word "him" would have been quite unmistakable. The reason is that we deal with an independent statement by the Torah, i.e. a testimony by the Torah that what Moses conveyed to the people was exactly what G'd had commanded him to convey. It was not merely what Moses thought that G'd had commanded him to convey.
