תהלים קל"א

א׳ שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּֽעֲל֗וֹת לְדָ֫וִ֥ד יְהוָ֤ה ׀ לֹא־גָבַ֣הּ לִ֭בִּי וְלֹא־רָמ֣וּ עֵינַ֑י וְלֹֽא־הִלַּ֓כְתִּי ׀ בִּגְדֹל֖וֹת וּבְנִפְלָא֣וֹת מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

1 A song of ascents. Of David.
O LORD, my heart is not proud
nor my look haughty;
I do not aspire to great things
or to what is beyond me;

1 A Song of Ascents; of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; Neither do I exercise myself in things too great, or in things too wonderful for me.

ה׳ לֹא גָבַהּ לִבִּי וְגוֹ׳. לֹא נָהַגְתִּי שְׂרָרָה, לֹא עָשִׂיתִי גְדוֹלוֹת: תַּעֲנוּגוֹת בִּנְיָנִים וּנְטִיעוֹת כְּעֵין שֶׁעָשָׂה בְנִי. הִנְנִי עָלֶיךָ כְּמִי שֶׁאֵין לוֹ יָדַיִם וְרַגְלַיִם, כְּגֹלֶם מֻטָּל לְנֶגְדְּךָ (ס״א אינו):

my heart was not haughty, etc. I did not behave with superiority. I did not make great things pleasures, buildings, and plantings as my son made. Behold I am with You like one who has no hands or feet, like an incomplete form lying before You.

ב׳ אִם־לֹ֤א שִׁוִּ֨יתִי ׀ וְדוֹמַ֗מְתִּי נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י כְּ֭גָמֻל עֲלֵ֣י אִמּ֑וֹ כַּגָּמֻ֖ל עָלַ֣י נַפְשִֽׁי׃

2 but I have taught myself to be contented
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child am I in my mind.

2 Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child with his mother; My soul is with me like a weaned child.

שִׁוִּיתִי וְדוֹמַמְתִּי. עָלֶיךָ נַפְשִׁי כְּגָמֻל, שֶׁהוּא נָתוּן עֲלֵי אִמּוֹ; גָּמֻל. יוֹנֵק שָׁדַיִם:

I calmed and quieted my soul upon You, like a suckling who is placed upon his mother. גָמוּל is one who sucks the breasts.

כְּגָמוּל עֲלֵי נַפְשִׁי. נַפְשִׁי בְּקִרְבִּי לְנֶגְדְּךָ כְּיוֹנֵק שְׁדֵי אִמּוֹ:

like a suckling was my soul with me My soul within me was before You as an infant sucking its mother’s breasts.

ג׳ יַחֵ֣ל יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה מֵֽ֝עַתָּ֗ה וְעַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

3 O Israel, wait for the LORD
now and forever.

3 O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and for ever.
