1
Of David.
I praise You with all my heart,
sing a hymn to You before the divine beings;
1
[A Psalm] of David. I will give Thee thanks with my whole heart, In the presence of the mighty will I sing praises unto Thee.
before the princes I shall sing Your praises before the eyes of the princes (kings).
2
I bow toward Your holy temple
and praise Your name for Your steadfast love and faithfulness,
because You have exalted Your name, Your word, above all.a
2
I will bow down toward Thy holy temple, And give thanks unto Thy name for Thy mercy and for Thy truth; For Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.
for You magnified Your word over all Your names Your name is mighty, jealous, and vengeful, but You magnified Your word, so that You skip over Your standards, over all Your names, and You forgive us.
3
When I called, You answered me,
You inspired me with courage.
3
In the day that I called, Thou didst answer me; Thou didst encourage me in my soul with strength.
4
All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD,
for they have heard the words You spoke.
4
All the kings of the earth shall give Thee thanks, O LORD, For they have heard the words of Thy mouth.
for they heard When they heard the words of Your mouth: “You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery,” they acknowledged the words of Your mouth: “I am [the Lord your God]” and “You shall have no [other god].” It is proper to make them first accept the yoke of His kingdom, and then He should levy all His decrees.
5
They shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
“Great is the majesty of the LORD!”
5
Yea, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD; For great is the glory of the LORD.
6
High though the LORD is, He sees the lowly;
lofty, He perceives from afar.
6
For though the LORD be high, yet regardeth He the lowly, And the haughty He knoweth from afar.
He chastises Heb. יידע, chastises, like (Jud. 8:16): “and with them he broke (ויודע) the men of Succoth.”
7
Though I walk among enemies,
You preserve me in the face of my foes;
You extend Your hand;
with Your right hand You deliver me.
7
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou quickenest me; Thou stretchest forth Thy hand against the wrath of mine enemies, And Thy right hand doth save me.
8
The LORD will settle accounts for me.
O LORD, Your steadfast love is eternal;
do not forsake the work of Your hands.
8
The LORD will accomplish that which concerneth me; Thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever; Forsake not the work of Thine own hands.
May the Lord agree with me May He agree with my requests.
the works of Your hands The Temple, about which is stated (Exod. 15:16): “Your hands established.”
